NEW YORK, NY – GRANDMA’S CHEESECAKE SANDWICHES will be out on the streets of Manhattan and Long Island for Valentine’s Day distributing 150+ heart-shaped cheesecake sandwiches with cherry centers to individuals residing in several homeless encampments, and challenges everyone to join in, and help brighten the spirits of our fellow displaced neighbors that don’t have the luxury of sharing such a romantic day with a sweetheart of their own by giving them a heart-shaped treat.

As a woman working in mostly male dominated industries over the years, I have suffered through workplace sexual harassment multiple times. I did try time and time again to move past it by changing jobs frequently, but it was this last time when I endured something far worse than before that I realized I’d had enough, and wasn’t going to put up with it anymore. Working for or with abusers is never a comfortable position to be in, so I started focusing my attention on creating a business that I would not only enjoy, but would keep me safe, and extend itself to others experiencing similar situations.

The thought process while I was trying to figure it all out kept taking me back to my grandmother’s cheesecake recipe, and a time in my life when I did feel safe, and I wondered if it could become something not only I, but others could make a living from.

I quickly got to work in my kitchen, and the responses were immediate. So many pleasing expressions, and comments from complete strangers wondering why they’d never tasted cheesecake like this before. I must have done a couple of hundred samplings before coming to the idea of cheesecake sandwiches, which allows grab-and-go consumption for the first time ever with a cheesecake product.

My hope is to build a family legacy and put them in the hands of everyone, while giving back to the community, not just by creating a safe space to employ women, but by also letting our displaced neighbors who can’t afford to purchase them have a chance to enjoy them on occasion too.

I always thought having a special someone on Valentine’s Day that you could share a sweet treat with, whether it be a friend, co-worker, brother, sister, parent, neighbor, husband, wife, boyfriend, girlfriend, lover, aunt, uncle, grandparent, etc. was important because at the end of the day it’s really about being happy with the people in your life.

Sharing and caring for others, that’s what we do as a society, and what better way to bring a smile to that significant person’s face, and taste buds I might add, then with a delicious morsel they will be talking about for days.

Food, dessert especially is something we gather over, it cheers us up when we feel down, enlightens our taste buds, and makes us forget for a minute about our stress, and busy workloads as it brings the ultimate smile to our faces.

So enjoy something on Valentine’s Day that makes you happy, and share with someone who doesn’t have that special someone in their life just because you can. The ultimate reward comes from doing an act of kindness, so for Valentine’s Day this year, let’s all pay it forward by giving a treat to someone who might not otherwise be getting one.

It’s been an exciting journey, and we are now open at our first retail location in Whitestone, Queens at 12-40 Clintonville Street as a fitting tribute to my late grandmother Raphaella, who settled into the community with my late grandfather, John back in 1955.

What better place to select than the very neighborhood where my grandmother baked her original plain cheesecakes from her secret family recipe. A recipe that allowed me to take this fabulous little dessert to a whole new level.  Right now, I am focusing on 18 flavors, yes I said 18 tasty morsels that leave you wanting more.

While my main focus is cheesecake sandwiches, I will also be whipping up some other grab and go desserts that are the perfect size when you are craving something sweet, and we are nut free. So, stop by and sample one of our many flavors any day of the week. We are open 11 am – 8 pm Monday through Saturday, and 11am – 4pm on Sundays.

What is Diabetes?

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a metabolic disease marked by high blood sugar levels. Its story goes way back, with early mentions found in ancient texts. Fast forward to more recent times, and we’ve made big strides in understanding and managing it.

The term “diabetes” was coined by Araetus of Cappodocia in 81-133 AD, with the addition of “mellitus” later, recognizing the sweet taste of urine and blood in patients. Over time, scientists uncovered more about diabetes, leading to better ways to help those living with it.

One breakthrough was in 1857 when Claude Bernard found out about the liver’s role in making sugar. This paved the way for more discoveries, including the link between the pancreas and diabetes by Mering and Minkowski in 1889. This eventually led to the discovery and use of insulin in treating diabetes by Banting and Best in 1921.

Well today was the day we signed a lease for our first retail store. It will be in Whitestone in honor of my grandmother, Raphaella, who lived there and provided this incredible recipe for our delectable dessert. 

Everything is so exciting! We are getting new packaging for the supermarkets, and opening a retail store, which will allow us to play with new flavors.
